Launched during the last Pekin motorshow, the Mercedes G-Class went for a face-lift and an energy boost.
The 33 years old rugged “Gelandewagen” did not reach its retirement age yet; sales are growing year after year and the “G” did not stop from fascinating.
Mercedes luxury meets extreme off-road capabilities; the exterior has been face-lifted discreetly in order to preserve the philosophy of the G; the interior gets a new look too; but let’s talk about the new AMG powerplants here.
Power to the (wealthy) people!
If the standard G500 V8 is not enough for you, Mercedes offers the G63 AMG with the 5.5 liters V8 Bi-Turbo delivering 544 horsepower at 5500rpm and 760 N.m of torque, enough to catapult the 2 tonns + from zero to 100km/h in 5.4 seconds, it’s like having a Porsche 991 acceleration with the ability to go anywhere off the road; that’s what the G-Class was initially made for.
Wait a minute ! If the “entry-level” AMG is not brutal enough for you, you have another option! A 6 liters V12 Bi-Turbo G-Class is available, it’s called the G65 AMG; power goes up to 612 Horsepower and some 1000 N.m of torque, here’s enough torque to probably pull a loaded Mercedes Actros truck.
Price for the G63 AMG in Germany is something around 137,000€ , as for the G65 AMG an extra 120,000€ is needed (sigh).
